IT – INET – REMINDER - Mandatory migration to Binary ITCH & GLIMPSE and mandatory new version of ITCH for Reported Trades (48/15)

As previously communicated in IT-Notice 29/15 and 24/15 Nasdaq Nordic and Nasdaq Baltic will introduce a larger improvement to the native INET protocols; Nordic Equity Totalview-ITCH and GLIMPSE by migrating over to binary versions; and update of the ITCH for Reported Trades ASCII protocol version. These migrations are mandatory.

The implementation of the binary versions of the ITCH and GLIMPSE protocols is one of the first important steps in the preparation for MiFID II. ITCH for Reported Trades will remain on ASCII version, however the protocol will be updated due to the introduction of nanosecond timestamp granularity across all INET Nordic protocols.

In addition to the time stamp granularity, a number of changes are introduced with binary ITCH:

  • The Market Segment State, Seconds and Milliseconds messages are retired.
  • The Order Book Trading Action message relays all state changes through the Symbol State field.
  • The Order Book Trading Action message relays the (auction) Extension indicator. That field is removed from the NOII message.
  • Two new messages, Order Replace and Order Book Flush.
  • The Order Book Directory message Note Codes are represented as bit flags.
  • The former eight character field is split into eight one char bit flag fields.
  • The NOII message is sent every time an order is updated.
  • Please see IT-Notice 42/15 about Auction changes and it’s impact on ITCH

Please visit the INET Nordic Technical Information web site for latest information about upcoming enhancements including the Auction changes that comes with Binary ITCH.

Latest protocol specifications, including the underlying transport level binary protocols, and a delta document describing the protocol changes “Binary ITCH and Related Protocol Changes” are available at Nasdaq Nordic Technical Information web site under Future INET Nordic Protocol Specifications.
