Icelandair Hotels, subsidiary of Icelandair Group, opens new hotel in downtown Reykjavik
Icelandair Hotels, a subsidiary of Icelandair Group, will open a new hotel in the center of Reykjavik in the summer of 2015. The name of the hotel will be Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Cultura. The hotel will be located in the “Hljomalind spot” between Smidjustigur and Hverfisgata, but the hotel will also contain a park between Hverfisgata and Laugavegur where various events can be held. The new hotel will contain 142 rooms along with facilities for both indoor and outdoor restaurants. The main advantages of the hotel will be its central location and the proximity to Harpa and other main events in the city. The interest in Reykjavik as a conference location has increased, and focused expansion in conference markets supports increased supply of quality accommodations in the city centrum.
The project will be implemented in cooperation between Icelandair Hotels and Þingvangur, which is the owner of the site and will be in charge of the constructions. Icelandair Hotels will lease the hotel facility for 25 years.
