ANNOUNCEMENT OF RIGA SHIPYARD FOR PRESS

 

In these days in Bosporus as for Riga Shipyard order it has being completed a unique and very complicated action, during which the oil rigs dismantling assembling and reconstruction was done. There were sawed the legs of the platform and a major part of upper equipment – so it can go under the bridges, which are jointing the shores of Bosporus. It must not exceed 58 meters. The total heights of the oil rig is 190 meters. Now when disassemble is done the oil rig is on its way to Turkey, where in the local factory it will be assembled again by building in all of specific equipment necessary for operating in the Black Sea. The major oil rig can be considered as a huge house on the water, where workers can live for months doing complicated boring jobs. There is also a space for helicopter arranged.

As it was announced before, despite the competition last year Riga Shipyard won the international tender where 124 participants handed in their offer for the rights to supply the Ukrainian Joint Stock Company Chernomornaftogaz with the huge floating self elevating oil rig. The Contract price is almost 400 million dollars.

According to the Contract the oil rig must be built by the end of year 2012. In December the oil rig which is carrying the name “Independence” must start the exploring and boring jobs in Gas deposits of Odesa. By taking part in this international production project, our company will not only gain the unique experience, but also will succeed that Latvia is going to be in that number of countries where complicated equipment is being produced, as commented by chairman of the Board of Riga Shipyard Vasilijs Melniks.
