Traffic Data May 2012Record passenger numbers and load factor on international flights in May
The Company carried roughly 165 thousand passengers on international flights in May. The number of passengers was up by 22% as compared to May last year. The passenger load factor was 82.2% and improved by 5.0 percentage points between years. This is a record number of passengers and load factor for the month of May. The largest increase in passenger numbers was on the Trans-Atlantic market and amounted to 31%. The increase in number of tourists visiting Iceland was 26%, thereof totalled the increase in number of tourists from N-America 58%. The number of tourists from N-America has more than doubled in the last 2 years. The increase is mainly driven by new flights to Denver, Washington and Seattle.
Passengers on regional flights and Greenland flights were approximately 29 thousand in May, which was a 9% increase from May last year. The load factor was 70.1%, increasing by 5.6 percentage points compared to May 2011. Sold block hours in charter flights decreased by 23% in May. The decrease is due to one less aircraft being deployed in charter cargo flights than in May last year. Cargo transport increased by 31% year-on-year. The number of available room nights at our Hotels was up by 32% from previous year. The room utilization was 71.1%, 0.2 percentage points lower than in May 2011.
